What to expect in your first session
The first session is a little like a first date. We need to get to know each other a bit in order to get a feel for what it might be like to work together. While there needn't be a “perfect match”, I do want to make sure that my expertise matches your needs. You need to feel that I can understand you, that my point of view and approach makes sense to you, and that you could be comfortable enough to tell me about your experiences, thoughts and feelings - even the things that are hard to talk about. In your first session we will:
You can expect an approach that is both practical and compassionate, and for your questions to be answered to the best of my ability. You can also expect a peaceful environment and a comfortable couch. If I am unfamiliar with how to treat your particular concerns or if there just isn't a match, I’ll try to help you locate another psychologist or therapist who can. |
